Carpark Charges By URA And HDB To Increase By Dec 1

It had been announced on Jun 30, 2016 that public carpark charges will increase come December 1. These include the carparks managed by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and Housing and Development Board (HDB). Season parking and short-term parking charges are both affected by the raise.

There has not been any adjustments since 2002 but rising building, operating and managing costs of these carparks have deemed it necessary to raise the charges to factor in all related costs including manpower, construction and maintenance.

All season parking holders will be informed of their rates revision and priority status of their cars by HDB and URA by September.

From early October, the new coupons with the revised rates will be on sale at :
1. HDB Branches / Service Centres,
2. URA Centre
3. Coupon agents such as 7-11 outlets and petrol stations

These new coupons must be used from December 1.

Those motorists with old carparking coupons can exchange their unused old ones for the new coupons by paying the difference in price.

Motorcyclists will face no change in their parking charges.

Motorists can contact the HDB and URA if they have any questions on the sale and exchange of new coupons.

Incidentally, Singapore condos, offices and commercial buildings in the Central Business District (CBD) have high season carpark charges. Even the URA practices differentiated carpark charges in the CBD.

More often than not, the maintenance fees of new condo launch developments in the CDB do not include free carpark lots. Residents have to pay if they wish to get a vehicle lot in the condominium. This may be a good idea as those who do not own a vehicle need not pay for the season carpark lot.
