Peace Of Mind While Renovating Your Home

We all have heard enough of unscrupulous or irresponsible renovating contractors ruining our dream homes, be it HDB flats or new condo launch private homes, turning our biggest investment into a nightmare.

Good news is in the air! Consumers can now fall back onto a newly accredited scheme for renovating contractors, introduced in August this year 2015. This is a tie-up between the Singapore Renovation Contractors and Material Suppliers Association or RCMA, with CaseTrust.  RCMA is a non-profit set-up, primarily to ramp up the standards of the home renovating and material supply industries. Renovating firms get accredited by registering with CaseTrust.

Reliable and responsible firms are highly encouraged to get such accreditation. These contractors must pass a set of stringent tests before being granted the accreditation.

Accredited firms / contractors have to abide by the following guidelines:

1. Accredited firms are expected to be transparent with fees; staffed by qualified employees; have clearly spelt-out processes and practices
2. Accredited firms are subjected to periodical workmanship and site checks by the BCA ( Building and Construction Authority ) Furthermore, these
3. Accredited contractors must put in place a systematic mediation process, should disputes arise.
4. To give further assurance to home owners, these accredited firms are required to purchase deposit bond for customers. In the event of non- or partial performance, consumers can claim damages from insurance companies.

In short, consumers can be assured of better renovating standards!
