New Road Brookvale Drive Enhances Connectivity for Sunset Way Estate Residents

The recent opening of the new road, Brookvale Drive on Sep 8 has brought significant improvements to accessibility for residents of Sunset Way. This 1.2km road now provides a direct connection to Clementi Road, offering smoother commutes and greater convenience. It’s a key enhancement for those residing in the area, including future residents of Ki Residences, a 660-unit new condominium set to launch in 2024.

Previously, Sunset Way was the sole access point for the estate, often resulting in heavy congestion during peak hours. Brookvale Drive is expected to alleviate this issue by providing an alternative route.

The construction of Brookvale Drive, undertaken by Hoi Hup Sunway Clementi—a collaboration between Hoi Hup Realty and Sunway Developments—was a complex five-year project costing $48 million. Along with the road, the project includes a covered linkway from Ki Residences to a bus stop on Clementi Road and various road realignments, including relocating an existing bus stop.

Senior Minister of State for National Development and Foreign Affairs, Ms. Sim Ann, noted that the road was designed to address concerns about traffic congestion and ensure uninterrupted connectivity during emergencies. Its development required detailed planning due to challenges like the hilly terrain and proximity to Maju Camp, which necessitated security considerations.

Environmental factors also played a key role in the project. While some trees in Maju Forest had to be removed, efforts were made to mitigate environmental impact and preserve wildlife habitats where possible.

A resident described Brookvale Drive as an “escape valve” that will support the area’s growing traffic needs. At the same time, another resident expressed the need for a signalized pedestrian crossing at the Sunset Vale and Sunset Way intersection to ensure safer passage for pedestrians amid increased traffic.

Overall, the introduction of Brookvale Drive marks a significant improvement for Sunset Way and Clementi residents, providing better connectivity and setting the stage for smoother commutes in the years to come.
